I can officially say I am a convert to the beauty blender and sponges! Once you start using it, after a while you realise brushes are too much hassle. I literally use my beauty blender for anything and everything to do with the face. It allows you to apply an even layer of foundation, NO STREAKS! Easily blends contouring and highlighting, concealer. You can even apply powder if you want with it. They say you should replace it every 3-4 months I think, but I have had mine for over a year now which extremely cheeky and I know I'm going to have to buy another one soon :( the sponge is starting to crack. It's best to use it damp, it enlarges and is so soft and gentle on the face. The shape allows easy acces to difficult areas like the eyes. Those cheap Fakes don't compare and are too hard to blend with. YES softness is necessary! I have also found a dupe which is cheap for £5 from TK Maxx, it isn't as soft but I could easily just use that happily. I try to clean my sponges minimum of every week using my facial makeup remover. I haven't tried good brushes yet but at the moment I am completely happy with my sponges! The only negative I can think of, is that you do have to use more foundation then a brush would need to cover the face.
